The prophet Micah declares that the Lord has shown us His goodness. Yeshua tells us that the only standard of true goodness is the Lord Himself. “But Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.” (Mark 10:18) It looks of the surface that Yeshua is even saying that he isn’t good. But I think the true emphasis should be on the “calling” of someone good or evil. Mankind has no true standard of Good and Evil apart from God. Only God who is good can declare something good or evil. The principal commandment from the Lord begins with the sh’ma, which means to listen with an open heart: “Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'HEAR, O ISRAEL, THE LORD OUR GOD, THE LORD IS ONE. ” (Mark 12:29) This is a direct quote of Deuteronomy 6:4, which goes on the speak of loving the Lord with all our heart and as Yeshua stated, our neighbor as ourselves. The opposite of that perspective is called a stumbling block, a perspective that causes instability or a double-mindedness, a divided heart.
