We have been focusing on the power of our testimony, the words we use to connect with the power of our salvation, our healing and deliverance from the bondage of the world system. The world system throws us into confusion. It does this by overwhelming us with many voices. The word confusion comes from the Latin root, “confusio”, which means to mix together. We get into confusion when we mix the holy with the common. Distinctions disappear into the mess and our thinking and actions become muddy. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid . (Joh 14:27 NIV) There is a dual warning here. The first part is allowing our hearts to be troubled. The second part is statement of being called being afraid. The first is a choice, allowing our hearts to become troubled. The second is more of a consequence, being afraid. When our heart is troubled, it leads to us being out of His peace. Being out of His peace is the place of fear. A troubled heart is an agitated heart. The Greek word translated as troubled in this verse is the word “tarasso”. It means to stir something. The Gospel of peace involves how we relate to others. How we relate to others sets boundaries in our heart which affects our relationship to God. The Apostle John tells us: "If someone sdidays, “I love God,” and yet he hates his brother or sister, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother and sister whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God must also love his brother and sister." 1Jn 4:20-21 (NASB) Every broken relationship we have fragments our love for God. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. (Rom 13:12 NKJV) The terms “put on” and “cast off” in this verse implyintentionality. The intention is either an act of the will and disciplined practice or a result of interacting with and learning the ways of the Holy Spirit. This relationship is described in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Our heart is activated in a positive, Godly direction by gratitude. We live in the atmosphere of heaven which is of blessing. As we just spoke about, blessing is always available to us as our inheritance as children of the King, our Father and God. Part of the adventure of life, which brings true liberty, is to live in the awareness in our heart and mind of the Voice of God and live inside an open and questioning heart. Questions and interactions with the Spirit that is God in us, brings us into joy, righteousness, and peace. The Apostle Paul instructs: for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
