Living the Resurrection Life, The Blood Part 3 (Atonement 1) - David Mitts

The Atonement, Part 1

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God Day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. (Rev 12:10-11 NKJV)

The hour we live in is a great struggle for people of faith. The accuser of the brothers and sisters of faith is at war with those who love and serve Yeshua. We see this handiwork of evil through the attack on the validity of the Gospel as the gateway of salvation for mankind through the expression of the love of God. Science and the exaltation of human intellect is being portrayed as the true solution for mankind’s self-destructive nature. This is a twisting of the truth to fit a narrative which is progressively diminishing the power and importance of the Atonement of Yeshua and the power of His blood.

We are in the biblical times of the fall feasts of the Lord. The crescendo of the fall calendar is Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement. This is the pivotal day of God’s love plan for mankind.Passover and the spring feasts are the picture of God bringing us out of the world and the plan of redemption. The fall feasts are about the manifestation of the kingdom. The spring feasts are about coming out of the world and the fall feasts are about entering into the kingdom. The Church has majored on the coming out. It is time to focus on the coming in.

The fall feasts begin with the shout and the trumpet, the shofar. This is the declaration of the kingdom authority in and through our lives. This is first revealed to Israel at Mount Sinai. Yahweh brought them out through the Passover but at Sinai, He is declaring the kingdom relationship. Look with me at Exodus 19:4-6

'You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you to Myself. 'Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel." (Exo 19:4-6 NASB)

Listen with your heart to what God is declaring. He is declaring a covenant relationship. Granted they were already a covenant people because of Abraham Isaac, and Jacob. God goes beyond that relationship, which was with a family, to a nation, a kingdom. He declared them to be a “mamlechot-cohanim”. This is a very special name. It means a kingdom who holds the special place of access to the mind and heart of the God of the universe.

The Apostle Peter reinforces this relationship:

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; (1Pe 2:9 NKJV)

We are not just called out of darkness but called into light. Light is not the opposite of dark but an entirely new reality, the reality of His kingdom.

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. (1Th 5:4-5 NKJV).

The trumpet or shofar declares this reality. The kingdom of light! Returning to Exodus 19:16-19

Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thundering and lightning, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, that all the people who were in the camp trembled. And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice. (Exo 19:16-19 NKJV)

The shofar declares the arrival of the Lord and His kingdom which is expressed by His voice. Where the voice of the Lord is, the kingdom is manifesting. This is also called the Day of the Lordbecause it comes with His light. His voice is His light. He speaks and there is light!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. (Joh 1:1-5 NKJV)

It is impossible for darkness, the world, to comprehend the light, the voice of God.

This brings us to the 10th day of the seventh month, the Day of Atonement, or the Day of the Blood. This is a Day of the Lord that brings us into the Holy Place, In Israel’s time in the wilderness this would be the time Moses appeared before God on the mountain. This time period is often called the giving of the Law by God to Moses, the 10 commandments etc. Because our earthly nature resists commandments, we have struggled to really perceive what is going on here.

Let’s look at this from a different perspective than is usually employed. Let’s look through the blood and the atonement. The blood contains the life. What is the life? It is the Word of God.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. (Joh 6:63 NKJV)

The blood contains the word of God! Think about it in the natural. We call the blood’s life by many names; one is the immune system. The immune system is the programming of life in our blood to defend us against an invasion by death, known as an infection.Inherent in the immune system is the intelligence of the blood system, the lymphocytes, the platelets, and the red blood cells. The blood is the battleground of life.

God’s programming in our blood wages war against the programming of sickness and disease.

He sent His word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions. (Psalms 107:20 NASB)

On Mount Sinai, Moses received the Word that provides for healing from all the root causes of sickness in mankind. Exodus 20 are the healing words of God. Think of this as the new lifeblood for Israel and really all of mankind. It is delivered as a covenant and will be sealed with the blood of a sacrifice. The sacrifice is the atonement representing the death of the kingdom of darkness. Look with me at the end of Exodus 20:

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'You yourselves have seen that I have spoken to you from heaven. 'You shall not make other gods besides Me; gods of silver or gods of gold, you shall not make for yourselves. 'You shall make an altar of earth for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered, I will come to you and bless you. 'If you make an altar of stone for Me, you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it. 'And you shall not go up by steps to My altar, so that your nakedness will not be exposed on it.' (Exo 20:22-26 NASB)

The altar of sacrifice is of the earth. It is to have no sign of any manimprint. It is purely natural, of the earth. On the altar is the sacrifice. This is the atonement. The last verse gives us the clue, the atonement sacrifice is to cover the nakedness.

The word for atonement is the word kaphar, which means to cover. It comes originally from the pitch that covered Noah’s ark and kept the judgment on the world separate from the salvation of God. Nakedness is the emblem of the world. It dates to the garden and the result of the discovery of the ability to judge good and evil, right, and wrong. Nakedness is exposure. Judgments expose and love covers and protects.

Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. (1Pe 4:8 NASB).

Love is often viewed through the filter of weaknesses and mistakes. We use phrases and ideas of loving each other despite our weaknesses. While there is no question that love covers our weaknesses, I want to go a level deeper to the area of instruction. Atonement is at its root, instruction in life.

Yeshua told us:

Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's who sent Me. (Joh 14:23-24 NASB)

The word “keep” is from the Hebrew shomer to guard and protect or to treasure with love. Keeping or treasuring the words of the Lord, His instructions is truly treasuring life. What we treasure, we invest in. If our treasure is of the world’s system of judgments and the attempts at self-righteousness, then our treasure is where moth and rust corrupt. BUT if our treasure is in the words of life through the life that is in the blood of Yeshua, then our treasure is incorruptible.

“Since you have purified your souls in obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brothers and sisters, fervently love one another from the heart, for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.” (1Pe 1:22-23)

The seed of God’s instructions and communications is imperishable. This can mean many things. It could mean that when God declares a thing, it is not subject to the conditions of a perishable world system. It could also mean that the seed itself is of another imperishable reality. His Word, is not touched by death, which is the ultimate consequence of the corruption that is in the world. What is clear, is that His Word brings us into the realms of love and life when we treasure His Word in our hearts and live out of that love reality.

This happens through the atonement. The atonement is the protection from the world’s corruption and the indwelling reality of His Word made possible by the life that is in His blood, His Word, His master program that teaches us His truth, His life and His way.

His atonement by His blood is the covering of His love that when we treasure Him, shomer His word we enter into the imperishable reality of eternal life. Next chapter, we will dive a little deeper into the Atonement and how it truly is a holistic total person transformation possibility that He has given us in His blood.

Activation: What are sowing into? Are you sowing your life into the world or into the Words matter. Words are programming. They affect our blood which carries programming. Ask the Lord, what words do I need to change that I speak to myself, to my blood. Life and death are in the power of the tongue.
